Although it redefined America’s role in the world and had profound effects on women’s rights and race relations at home, World War I is often referred to as “The Forgotten War.”  Almost 5 million Americans served during the war with over 116,000 making the ultimate sacrifice, yet the National World War I Memorial would not be established until 2021, more than century after the war’s end. In these pages we will attempt to remember Americans who served through their own words.
